Apartheid was a system of institutionalized racial segregation and discrimination that was implemented in South Africa from 1948 to 1994. It classified people into racial groups and restricted their movements, education, and economic opportunities based on their race. This system of apartheid created deep-rooted divisions and inequalities in society, with lasting effects that are still felt today.
