The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. They also have carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
