===== Date and country of first publication===== 1972<br> United States ===== Definition ===== Economic segregation refers to the separation of people based on their income level, resulting in different communities or neighborhoods being predominantly inhabited by either wealthy or low-income individuals. This phenomenon can lead to disparities in access to resources and opportunities, as well as contribute to social divisions and inequities. Economic segregation can be perpetuated by factors such as housing policies, income inequality, and discriminatory practices. Efforts to address economic segregation often involve promoting affordable housing, expanding economic opportunities, and fostering inclusive communities. ==See also== ==Related segregation forms== Economic segregation is frequently discussed in the literature with the following segregation forms: racial segregation, social segregation, residential segregation, school segregation, spatial segregation, income segregation, racial residential segregation, urban segregation, neighborhood segregation, housing segregation, class segregation, socioeconomic segregation, occupational segregation, local segregation This visualization is based on the study The Multidisciplinary Landscape of Segregation Research.
